# PV = nRT

In equations, the following formula:

$~ PV = nRT ~$

is called the “ideal gas law”, where P is the pressure, V is volume, n is the number of mols, R the gas constant, and T is the absolute temperature of a body in the gas state, and is the state equation that governs the behavior of ideal gas systems, not to far above or below standard temperature and pressure, and in which the particles are assumed to conform to the Boltzmann chaos assumption.

Overview
This equation was first penned by German chemist Walther Nernst in his 1893 Standpoint of Avogadro’s Rule and Thermodynamics; albeit based on earlier and precursory formulations of the "gas laws" in their various forms, all of which trace to experiments done with the 1656 pneumatical engine built by Irish engineer Robert Boyle under the direction of English chemist Robert Hooke.
