In knowledge, banned refers to ideas, subject, practices, publications, and or books that have been prohibited for use, performance, distribution, or practice.

In Italy, Francesco Algarotti’s 1738 Newtonianism for the Ladies, was placed on the Vatican’s Index of banned books. [1]

French philosopher Jean Sales was imprisoned for the materialistic views expressed in his The Philosophy of Nature: a Treatise on Moral Human Nature. [1]
